Balloon, labeled The Forgivable (formerly The Manipulative One), was a male contestant on Inanimate Insanity and was the team captain of Team Chickenleg. He was eliminated in "Sugar Rush" in a contestant vote, with all of his teammates voting against him.

He returned to compete in Inanimate Insanity II and was a member of The Grand Slams until his elimination in "Kick the Bucket", alongside Nickel.

He once again returned to compete in Inanimate Insanity Invitational, and was a member of The Sinkers until moving to The NEW Pinkers before the merge and later in the finale. His disloyal, cutthroat, and unpredictable gameplay made him a silent threat, and although his plead to the jury gained him respect, it did not rack enough votes to secure the win, which resulted in him losing to Cabby in a 7-6-2 vote, placing him as the runner-up of the season. He was voiced by Ben Cross.

Appearance[]

Balloon was a round, salmon red, stringless balloon. The neck of the balloon was positioned between his legs. He was one of the bigger characters, his height becoming more apparent when standing next to shorter characters (like Nickel). He was filled with helium. He now doesn't have a face nor limbs but has words written on his body as "full of hot air".

In the first season, Balloon was regarded as the most manipulative and spiteful character, as well as the most hated of the objects (until Taco somehow took his place in the finale). Balloon was extremely unkind, mean and rude to members of Team Chickenleg, even as the team captain. Balloon rendered others useless and made extremely derogatory and bad remarks about them to the point that he could make outbursts of profanity.

Balloon makes a return to Inanimate Insanity II with a completely different outlook. He became a much nicer character and wanted to help out with challenges such as in "Marsh on Mars." Balloon was also very charitable and assisting, making an attempt to save Box from sinking after being knocked into the pool by Toilet in "Tri Your Best." Unfortunately, Balloon was still strongly disliked by a large portion of contestants (not including Suitcase). This made him a frequent target of hurtful words and actions.

Balloon in Inanimate Insanity Invitational had quite the personality change, wanting to be more genuine and had no problem standing up for himself.

Abilities[]

  • Quick Air Release: He can deflate himself to release air, causing him to go flying at a rapid speed, he uses this ability multiple times. He can also inflate as shown in S3 E16.
  • Levitation: Balloon can be seen being able to float in air several times, due to being made up of helium.
  • Slow Falling: Since Balloon was made up of helium, he falls slower than the rest of contestants.

Site Bio[]

Balloon back in Season 1 was known to be very bossy. He enjoyed manipulating other players into doing what he says, mostly because he believed that he was the most important player on Team Chickenleg since he was the team captain. This caused many of the contestants on the show to have a major dislike for Balloon. Now in Season 2, Balloon strives to redeem himself and doesn't want to be known for his bad ways in the past. He hopes to gain the trust of his team members and start a new.

Initially a ruthless competitor, Balloon relied on manipulative and demanding tactics to advance himself in the game… to little avail... OH C’MON!! He has since seen the error of his ways and strives to be more kin friendship and has an intense desire to rise above his past demons. Unfortunately, he is continuously labeled as untrustworthy by other competitors in his pursuit of allies. Is his personal transformation truly genuine, or is he merely full of hot air?

General[]

  • Running Gag:
  • Despite saying that he was salmon, the only time he was ever salmon was in his shine from Late Season 2.
    • His actual body colors are: Coral Reef (S1), Sunset Orange (S2), and Grapefruit (S3) respectively.
  • In the Inanimate Answers episode BALLOON VS THE POPPER, it was seemingly implied that Balloon is on the aromantic spectrum, with this being confirmed by Justin Chapman on their Tumblr. [1]
  • Balloon has the highest-pitched voice of all characters.
    • This was because of the helium inside him as it was later revealed in "The Great Bluish Bake Off" that Balloon has a much croakier voice if he loses all of his air.
    • He's also one of the three male characters to have a high-pitched voice, the others are Paper and Cherries.
  • Balloon's character page on the website reveals he enjoys classical music, but pop music makes him nervous. (No pun)
  • His character page states that Balloon was not afraid of heights, as falling doesn't scare him, and his favorite spot was noted to be on top of a mountain.
  • If Balloon feels pressured, his website page states that he can cling to walls using static electricity.
  • Balloon was originally going to be changed into a girl, similarly to Lightbulb, but this was declined due to creative differences between Adam and Nate. This was also seen in The Inanimate Insanity Secrets video.
  • Originally, Balloon was not going to be in Season 2, but he was added in to develop a new personality.
  • Balloon owns a standard wristwatch, shown in "Theft and Battery".
  • Not counting deleted scenes, Balloon was one of the three contestants who have canonically used strong language, the others are Paper and Pickle, if also not counting one of the trees who appeared in "A Lemony Lesson".
    • Including deleted scenes, however, Nickel can be added.
    • In the CartoonMania episode, "Acknowledgement", Balloon can be seen as one of the Webtoon Hall of Fame's statues to represent the show.

  1. A post by justin-chapmananswers on Tumblr. Anonymous question says: Hey i was rewatching the Inanimate answers episodes and in Balloon's episode there seems to be an answer that implies that he's aro-spec. I was wondering if that was intentional on your part, and if it was, was it an idea you had for balloon for a while or no?? ( sorry im just aro and that little scene makes me really happy and im just curious!!!!! very happy emoticon ). Justin Chapman's response says: Definitely was the intent in writing that, yeah! Felt right.
