Nickel

"The Arena of Death" is the 3rd episode of Inanimate Insanity and the overall episode, released on June 1, 2011. The episode was removed and promptly re-uploaded on September 14, 2011.

Description[]

Arena of death? Sounds scary! Well, it is! It's quite scary! Now with the last elimination, there are only 13 remaining! And with a rock pelting, life-threatening challenge like this... who knows who will win? Better yet, who will survive?

Plot[]

Knife is shown sitting by a tree, bored because Paper has been eliminated. He spots Marshmallow and asks her if she wants to have fun. Knife comes up with the idea of throwing her, because she's small and "weak" and he's "so strong." Marshmallow declines, but Knife does it anyway, throwing her into the distance and popping Balloon in the process.

As MePhone4 starts to explain the challenge, he notices that Nickel is missing. Nickel is ending a conversation with the Announcer. MePhone4 is annoyed, but proceeds to explain the challenge anyway, stating that it will be an Arena of Death. The challenge starts with four people, randomly chosen, each on a different platform, from both teams. Both teams throw rocks at the other with the intent of dislodging members of the opposite team from their platforms. The last contestant standing wins for their respective team.

Nickel, Baseball, Paintbrush, and Knife are chosen for Team Epic, and Taco, Salt, Pepper, and OJ are chosen for Team Chickenleg. When the challenge begins, Knife proposes the idea that if all of the team members throw rocks at one opponent at once, they would not be able to dodge them. The team agrees to this strategy and all throw rocks at Taco, but Taco swallows each rock and spits them out back at them.

Death arena

All of Team Epic dodges the rocks, except Knife, who is hit and therefore out of the contest. Nickel throws a rock at Pepper, who dodges it, but the rock curves around and hits her from the back, making her fall, causing Salt to jump down in an attempt to save her. OJ throws a rock at Nickel in revenge, but Paintbrush jumps in its path to save Nickel. The rock hits both contestants and knocks them out. Baseball, noticing that he's the only contestant left on his team, angrily kicks a rock, which accidentally hits OJ, shattering him. Baseball then realizes he and Taco are the final two competitors in the contest. Baseball jumps off of his platform, attempting to knock Taco off of hers, but she spits out a lemon, knocking Baseball down. Team Chickenleg are declared the winners, while Team Epic is put up for elimination. Despite her team's loss, Lightbulb excitedly asks if they'll receive cookies again, but MePhone4 says that they won't because Lightbulb asked.

After the elimination time jingle, MePhone4 reveals to Team Epic that the elimination area has been renovated since the previous episode. Nickel is not impressed. MePhone4 states that although he did initially have cookies, he is giving out pencils instead, specifically because Lightbulb asked about the cookies. Nickel makes a rude comment about pencils, prompting Pencil to appear and calls him a jerk. MePhone4 is annoyed with Pencil's presence and promptly launches her out of the area with a giant boxing glove labeled "Fist Thingy." He proceeds to explain that the eliminated contestant will also be sent off by the Fist Thingy.

MePhone4 then reveals the votes. Despite her lack of participation, Lightbulb receives zero votes, though she disagrees with assertion that she did nothing, claiming that she watched. She is shattered by the pencil thrown to her by MePhone4. Paintbrush and Nickel also receive zero votes. Marshmallow is also safe, rendering Baseball and Knife the last two. MePhone4 announces that Baseball is eliminated, and tells him to say goodbye. Interpreting this literally, Baseball says "goodbye" and is promptly launched into the distance by the Fist Thingy. MePhone4 says his farewell to Baseball and concludes the episode.

Later, Balloon is seen, happily announcing he is alive, only to be swiftly popped by Pencil colliding with him.

Features[]

Hosts[]

Team Epic[]

Team Chickenleg[]

Minor Characters[]

  • Announcer (cameo, non-speaking)
  • Pencil (debut on Inanimate Insanity, cameo)

Production Notes[]

Continuity[]

  • Starting with this episode, Taco would be voiced by Adam Katz himself as opposed to Sam Katz, although archive sounds of her voice in previous episodes are used sparringly.
  • This is the first time in the series that OJ and Lightbulb are killed.
  • This would be the very last episode AmandaRulez85 voiced Marshmallow and had any actual involvement in the series, likely due to inactivity.
    • Despite this, many sound recordings of her voice of Marshmallow in this episode would still be used in several following episodes for Marshmallow and other characters, most notably the scream, all the way to Breaking the Ice.

Cultural References[]

  • Pencil and the Announcer from Battle for Dream Island make cameos in this episode.
  • The rock assets used in this episode reuse Rocky from Battle for Dream Island's asset; similarly, the pencil assets reuse Pencil's asset.

Trivia[]

  • sneak peek of this episode was uploaded to the YouTube account DuncanEpic.
    • In this sneak peek, Knife's line "Marshmallow! Wanna have some fun?" is a different voice clip than in the full episode.
  • This is the first episode in the series to include revised character body assets.
    • This is also the first episode to have new mouth assets, being original instead of using stock mouths.
  • The sound of Balloon popping in the start and end of the episode was a direct audio clip of Bubble popping from The Reveal.
  • This is the first episode in the series in which a character featured in the YouTube thumbnail is eliminated.

Errors[]

  • When Taco spits rocks at Team Epic after Knife is hit, Paintbrush appears.
  • When OJ is hit by the rock and shatters, the orange juice inside him disappears.
  • When Knife is talking to Marshmallow at the start of the episode, he has no limbs.
  • When MePhone4 announces that Team Epic has voted on which contestant will leave the game at elimination, his mouth doesn't move.
  • When Knife shares his strategy with his team, his voice is briefly accented.
  • Lightbulb is referred to with masculine pronouns by MePhone4, though this is considered a mistake, as she is later changed to be female.
    • This change was made to better balance the genders of the contestants.
  • When Knife is about to throw a rock, his asset is larger than normal.

Deaths[]

  • Balloon pops twice; first when Marshmallow collides with him, and a second time when he is struck by Pencil.
  • OJ is shattered by a rock, kicked by Baseball.
  • Lightbulb is shattered when a pencil is thrown at her by MePhone4.
