Inanimate Insanity... Is BACK!

Fan

"The Future Is Today!" is the 1st episode of Inanimate Insanity IV, and the 56th episode overall. This episode was shown live at the BFDI & Inanimate Insanity 2025 Tour on dates ranging from June 27 to July 13, 2025.[1] The episode was released back-to-back with "BFDI:TPOT 19: Last One Standing" on YouTube on July 14, 2025.[2]

Plot

Deep within MeAfterlife, multiple of MePhone4's creations are participating in a new challenge to escape to the real world; they must throw three basketballs into their respective baskets to remove the wall between them and the portal leading outside of MePhone. The competitors include failed Season 1 debutants Teddy Bear, Spikey, and Bell, and previously unseen characters Jack and Tapey. Since the removal of the Shimmer energy, MeAfterlife has become increasingly unstable, and MePhone4S began to serve as a coach for everyone who is trying to escape, urging them to do so while they still can. Teddy Bear and Jack complete the challenge easily, with Tapey following after Jack enters the portal without her, but Spikey and Bell struggle to finish. With some encouragement from Teddy Bear, Spikey makes his baskets, but Bell fails her last one. With only ten seconds remaining, Teddy refuses to leave without Bell, but Spikey forces her into the portal. Bell does one final "ding" before being deleted.

Teddy Bear, Spikey, Jack, and Tapey are recovered on Inanimate Island, initially confused by their surroundings. The Floor greets them and explains that there are no more challenges, which Jack and Teddy Bear doubt. Bot arrives soon after and brings the group to a stage play set up by Cabby. Said play goes over the story of Steve Cobs and MePhone4, explaining how they were generated through MeLife, how they were severed from MeLife, followed by Cob's death, and that they're now free to live their own lives in a new society, severed from MePhone4 and the game. Jack is confused and frustrated with this precedent, having only ever wanted to participate in Inanimate Insanity. As the play comes to a close, Cabby gets an alarm for her to attend a meeting, and summons Clover and Baseball to begin the tour to show Teddy, Tapey, Jack, and Spikey their new society.

Baseball and Clover take the group on a ride in a tour bus, passing by the very spot where Steve Cobs was blown up. Tapey thinks he was murdered, but Baseball reassures that it was just "natural causes", and Clover remarks it was based on his behavior, which scares Spikey a bit. The bus suddenly halts to a stop as Lifering, Box, Paintbrush, & MeTag, introducing them as "Suitcase's Safety Authority", step in front of the group, causing the bus to stop. Paintbrush remarks what Spikey said & Box reminds them that she knows exactly how it felt. When Baseball asks what they did wrong, Lifering claims that they almost ran them over from how fast they were driving, but Teddy replies that they could've just stepped out of the way. He also remarks that having Spikey on the bus is a "risk of being impaled", so MeTag covers his spikes, much to Spikey's embarrassment. Box tells the others that Test Tube has invented a new spray called the, "Blue-Ray", which keeps the most fragile contestants from dying, which Lightbulb is amused by. Paintbrush walks up to Tapey, asks them not to record the tour, and Tapey says he wasn't recording in the first place, which insults Lifering a bit. After checking the group, Clover accidentally runs over Lifering's foot, much to his pain, whom she then remarks that the hospital was going to be their next stop anyways.

The group spots Salt and Bomb, in which Bomb is given a new fuse, and is also run by Pepper, who seems to be not doing so well with her new job. They follow the two to Fan's bed, who is excited to see the recently recovered group. Fan asks if he can go with them, but Teddy sarcastically suggests that they stay in the hospital, because they're getting "sick".

Later, the group spots Taco, who is currently a server at the new, "Reality Restaurant", and she greets them, alongside Pencil and Magnet. Soap asks Taco why she's giving the duo the good seats & she claims that she's just using "hospitality". When Baseball asks if they even have a reservation, Pencil claims that they do, & replaces Box's name with hers. Once seated, Teddy notices that they can't see the menus due to the lack of light, which Candle tries to help by holding it up to her flame. Suddenly, it burns into ashes, much to her embarrassment, so Candle grabs & burns another one. Back in the kitchen, Tea Kettle, (who manages the restaurant), is telling Cheesy, Bonesaw, Nickel, and Trophy to cook the food as fast as possible. Cheesy accidentally drops the food, much to Nickel's dismay, but Tea Kettle still wants everyone to focus on waxing the tables. Trophy remarks that he already did, but Tea Kettle replies that it was a metaphor to give them the, V.I.P experience. The food comes out extra burnt, but Baseball tries to tell the others not to look at it, and Trophy takes a picture of the steak. Clover then realizes that they're late for something, tells them to take the food with them, but Teddy throws it away, much to her disgust. Baseball then tells them that they are finally going to be welcomed to the "OSC".

At the HOOT, OJ, Suitcase and Cabby sing a song about the "OSC", which its initials stand for "order", "safety" and "cooperation". After the song, the four other objects leave the room in dismay, making Fan to believe that their new society isn't working for anyone, but the OSC disregards him and it's a life "without drama".

Back in Test Tube's Laboratory, Fan complains with her about the OSC's comments that they've made, while Lightbulb is given an extra dose of the Blue-Ray. Test Tube questions what Fan is talking about, commenting that there are "cracks" being formed, which startles Lightbulb a bit. Lightbulb walks up to Fan, saying that there are no more challenges, which gives him an idea. Back at the HOOT, Fan busts down the door, and explains to the OSC about how the game relates to their personal problems.

Suddenly, Nickel and some others are heard screaming in the distance, and the gang rush over to find out what's wrong. Once they've arrived at the Reality Restaurant, Tea Kettle exclaims that Nickel got stuck in the pipes, much to Suitcase's confusion. Cheesy explains that they were about to start washing dishes, Cheesy told Nickel to be careful, which Nickel claimed was "ridiculous", so Cheesy threw him down the drain. After successfully getting him out, despite Nickel not being on good terms with Suitcase, Fan compliments him, which finally gives the OSC his attention. Tea Kettle then tells the rest to leave the kitchen, since it's the "dinner rush" for the others.

Fan gets the OSC to open up with what their life lessons from the game were similar to their current lives & thinks that they should bring back the game itself. The OSC agrees with this, so they choose Fan to be the "host", much to his shock. Back in the Reality Restaurant, Box is questioning why her reservation was "lost", but is interrupted by her device, which tells her that everyone needs to meet up at the Mansion.

Once everyone arrives, alongside Knife, (who is still a ghost since the finale), and admits that their new society hasn't been as "satisfying" for the others, much to Blueberry's appreciation. Finally, Fan announces that Inanimate Insanity "is back", much to everyone's excitement. Marshmallow, much to her frustration, tries to stop the others, (including Teddy & Tapey), from joining the competition. Toilet tries to do the same thing by asking, "What would MePad think?", and Taco claims that they should do whatever "felt right", much to Toilet's annoyance. However, another person off-screen asks if they can play, which confuses Fan. Jumping in front of the crowd, a familiar corn cob object introduces themself as "Poppy", which scares the OSC, Fan, and even Knife.

    • …be a season premiere at a meetup and in a theater, instead of premiering on YouTube.
    • …break the pattern of premiering on the same day of April as its season's number (excluding Season 1's remaster). It instead premiered on June 27, 2025, and released to YouTube on July 14, 2025. However, the announcement of it was on April 4, 2025.

  • The two Season 1 failed debuters that made it out of the MeAfterlife (Teddy Bear and Spikey) in this episode, coincidentally, were the runners-up of the paintball contest back in that season, having placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Bell, the recommended character who failed to escape, placed 4th.
