Synopsis[]
When the contestants are challenged to face a long trek, it's going to take more than individual strength to win. SO LET'S GET BAKING!
Plot[]
Cold Open[]
We see Blueberry being carried in a palanquin by Silver Spoon in the back and Nickel in the front respectively. Blueberry seems to be wearing a golden laurel wreath. He appears to be relieved after making it back into the game and being treated "the royal way". He then asks for more grapes. Nickel then gets upset because of the request, and says that Blueberry shouldn't be filled up with just fruits before the grand lunch. Silver Spoon seems to be over-exhausted from carrying such a heavy object, whilst hearing the yapping of Nickel. He then thinks to himself that he would carry the palanquin (or as Silver calls it, a "chariot") 100 miles if it meant Blueberry's vote for the elimination was secure.
The two bring Blueberry to a very elegant table, with a vase and multiple candles, setting him down in a throne chair. Blueberry tells them that "this will do". Nearby, Cabby and Balloon watch them. Cabby sarcastically congratulates Balloon on making them the final 3. Balloon tells her that Yin-Yang had won immunity a ton, and that he had to go at some point. Cabby tells him that he can explain that to him tonight since they were now outnumbered. Balloon, now annoyed, walks over to Nickel and Silver. Silver is motioning food into Blueberry's mouth when Balloon grabs the cloth, causing all of the food to fall onto the ground, which excites The Floor. Balloon goes over to Nickel and tells him he hates how he's throwing away his dignity so he won't get voted out. Nickel asks him what choice he has due to them not working together anymore. The Floor, assuming they mean dessert, says that he'd like tiramisu. Nickel walks away, leaving Balloon alone and upset, while The Floor licks a piece of raw meat on the ground.
Challenge[]
MePhone4 calls the final five contestants over to a Pic-Nix Table, telling them he knew he had to make a challenge that was physically grueling, emotionally taxing and psychologically devastating due to the game nearly being done, so he decided on a baking challenge. MePhone tells the contestants they have 30 seconds to generate any ingredient they want. When the timer starts, the contestants generate as many ingredients as they can before the timer runs out. However, MePhone tells them that they won't be baking on this island, but instead the Deserted Dessert Island, where the stoves were. Balloon comments on how that’s “pretty cool”, but MePhone adds that they must travel across the Dessert Desert to get there, which is a “painful cactus-filled journey” that spans over 100 miles.
Blueberry gloats about how this would expose their weaknesses, and that he would “look down on them” before he freezes in place. Cabby tells the others that on average, it would take them about 20 days to make the journey before Blueberry sprints left very quickly. Balloon realizes what he meant by “looking down” and runs after him to see him flying away on the hot air balloon. Balloon offers some ingredients for a ride, and Silver tells him he can't leave without his butlers. Blueberry instead locks SIlver out and tells them they aren’t coming. This heavily angers Silver who throws the Palanquin at Blueberry only for him to catch it and drop it on Silver instead. Cabby questions how Blueberry got so strong. It cuts to a flashback where Blueberry was doing push-ups when OJ was leaving Indefinite Island. Nickel asks the group if they agree that Blueberry needs to be dethroned, even if they weren’t exactly aligned. Nickel and Silver go together in a circle in agreement, with Cabby joining in. Balloon, although hesitant at first, joins in “for the sake of the game”. The four of them then depart to the Dessert Desert.
Up above, Blueberry watches the group. He then has a flashback to when Fan was preparing to leave Indefinite Island. Fan looks at the boat and starts reconsidering his decision to leave and looks back at Blueberry. Blueberry gives Fan the “cutting off head” gesture, which frightens Fan, causing him to finalize his decision to leave. Blueberry grins, but then returns to his neutral face shortly after, being alone on the island again.
In the desert, the group continues to walk, and Balloon thanks Cabby for carrying everyone’s baskets. Nickel compliments Silver on how he was able to lift the Palanquin so easily. Silver commented on how it had felt “new”, and also felt like he had “lost control”. Nickel tells Silver that he appreciates him for standing up for “what was right”, which heavily annoys Balloon. In a confessional, Balloon comments on how Nickel said that even though he vomits when he tries to apologize to people. Silver magically glows for a split second, which the other contestants question. Silver figures that it was the hot sun reflecting off of him, and that every rose has its thorn. Balloon gets an idea and asks Cabby if she can trust him. Nickel and Silver get situated inside of Cabby’s bottom cabinet and Balloon pierces himself with a thorn to give Cabby speed.
Blueberry lands on the Deserted Dessert Island, where MePhone and The Floor have already arrived. MePhone comments on how ruthless Blueberry was to steal the only available vehicle. He also comments that the season may “run a bit longer than anticipated”, which makes The Floor uneasy. Blueberry looks at the eggs he generated, and flashes back to another time when Lifering and Tea Kettle were eating deviled eggs on Indefinite Island. They motion Blueberry to join them, but he continues to do exercise and read a book at the same time.
The group continue to speed through the Desert. Cabby comments on how they might make it before sundown. However, Balloon has nearly run out of air, and tells them he can't do it much longer. Cabby accidentally flies into a cactus, sending a lot of the ingredients flying. Silver tells Cabby to get moisturizer for Balloon, but she realizes that all of the ingredients are now gone. Balloon pulls out a flower, the sole ingredient that survived. The sky instantly turns gray and it starts raining. Silver gets on his knees and screams. The group runs toward a cave that Cabby had noted down in her files to stay in until it stopped raining. Balloon wonders how the desert would be so dry if there were rainstorms like that, and Cabby states there wasn’t anything on rain in her files. A large hand appears behind Silver, which grabs him and pulls him away. The other three flee the cave, but Cabby’s wheel gets stuck in the sand, and she gets pulled away as well.
Nickel and Balloon locate to a stone monolith nearby. Balloon asks Nickel why even though he spent a while convincing them to work together and attempting to save Cabby, why he spent so long tormenting and bringing him down. Nickel admits that none of it was Balloon’s fault and that he was scared to be manipulated and fall for his old tricks, which is why put up a wall. Nickel tells Balloon that he is genuinely really sorry for his actions and that he isn't the same person he used to be, also knowing that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness. The two of them are then approached by the monster.
Blueberry stops working on his food and takes a “break”, falling face first onto the ground. The Floor questions MePhone over why he said the season may need to extend when he knew that the desert trek would take weeks. MePhone tells him he can't question the host but The Floor asks why he’s even pretending he wants the season to end when he clearly doesn’t. He lies and tells The Floor he has to spice things up, and tells him about a twist he made for the challenge: that the ovens would take MONTHS to heat up for the rest of the contestants. The Floor comments on how there is more beneath than what meets the eye with MePhone and pops away.
Balloon and Nickel wake up and are greeted by Tyler Bombard, who apologizes for coming out strong. Nickel demands him to let them go but Cabby appears and tells them a sudden grab is a “sign of hospitality” in Tyler culture. Tyler tells them that this cave had been his vacation home and he was happy to have bonded with them. He also tells them he has a tunnel to the Deserted Dessert Island due to him being the mayor of it. The group arrives on the island and The Floor tells MePhone that they made it weeks ahead of time. MePhone hesitantly congratulates them but says that their ovens will take 8 weeks to heat up due to being 8 hours behind Blueberry who had now finished his cookies. Balloon instead pulls out the flower from earlier insisting that the team should hand it in together to symbolize the struggle they all went through to get there. MePhone eats the flower and rates it a 1/10 instead of a 0 because of Balloon’s speech. Blueberry brings over his cookies and MePhone eats one expecting it to be good. However, MePhone realizes that his lips feel tingly. The Floor comments on whether it was just him that was starting to feel hot. Cabby realizes that Blueberry said he used grapes, which meant that he had made Oatmeal Raisin cookies. Blueberry asks “So?”, and The Floor tells him that oatmeal raisin cookies are the number one contributor to global warming.
The island instantly bursts into flames. Tyler Bombard gets on his knees and starts crying. Blueberry says that its up to him to save them due to causing this and leads them all to the Hot Air balloon. Silver questions why he would be putting others before himself. He says that seeing them work together made him realize how long he had been isolating himself. Blueberry flashes back once more, but combusts into flames. The rest of the group flies back to Paradise.
Tyler Bombard comments on how he wished the “lucky one” had never left, which Cabby questions. Tyler explains that a “green goddess”, revealed to be Clover, had arrived on the once dry wasteland and made it beautiful. Nickel deduces that this was the project that Clover had been working on. Tyler is happy that Blueberry is now dead but Balloon says they should award his attempt at change. Tyler disagrees and leaves to get some air. MePhone revives Blueberry and disqualifies him for nearly killing everyone. He hands out the Immunity Cookie as well. Silver gives it to Balloon saying he deserves it. Nickel apologizes for everything earlier and Balloon said he understands how hard it is to leave an old version of yourself behind. Silver goes to Blueberry and wonders what happened to his plan, but Blueberry says that he failed in intimidating everyone else, with everyone hating him. Silver states in a confessional that if everyone does hate him, including the jury, that Blueberry can't leave tonight. Silver approaches Cabby and talks to her about going into the final 4 with the dynamic duo and she brings up how hard it was to beat him in the challenge. Silver says they can beat him again and the Elimination Button is pressed by Nickel and Balloon.
Elimination[]
MePhone4 tells the final five contestants he didn’t plan on having the elimination so soon and that the challenge was supposed to be longer. He starts reading out the votes, with 1 vote for Blueberry. Blueberry crosses his arms, accepting his fate. Nickel gets a vote, which he mocks with Balloon. Nickel and Blueberry both tie with 2 votes, which frightens Nickel. With 3 votes, Blueberry becomes the 16th contestant eliminated from Inanimate Insanity Invitational, showing that he had been voted by Cabby. Blueberry walks toward the Fist Thingy and says that he deserved this. He adds on that he meant to push everyone away so he could win, but it left him with nothing in the end. Balloon tells him he did what he thought would work in the end, and Nickel harshly adds that he should just be nicer to people. Blueberry tells Nickel he knows that won’t happen and says he is rooting for the now final 4 before getting flung into the sky.

Production Notes[]
Continuity References[]
- The Floor's line about oatmeal raisin cookies being the number one contributor towards global warming is a reference to the Season 2 episode "Marsh on Mars".
- Also given credit where credit is due, Tissues already recalled it from the first time this dessert was introduced. Possibly being the proponent of the entire "Oatmeal Raisin Cookies = Global Warming" gag.
- Both the Dessert Desert and the appearance of Tyler Bombard are likely nods to Double Digit Desert.
- Either Tyler Bombard is the brother of Tyler Bungard, or this is his unrelated relative.
Trivia[]
- Blueberry marks the least number of episodes it took for a rejoiner to be eliminated after their rejoin, rejoining in Blue Buried, which was 1 episode prior.
- Coincidentally, Paper also rejoined after being eliminated first in Season 1, along with being eliminated again in the 16th episode of the season.
- Thus Cabby is the highest ranking rejoiner still competing this season.
- This is the only episode (in 2023) that doesn't use a paper cutout for its episode thumbnail.
- This episode released exactly a decade after the Season 2 episode A Kick in the Right Direction.
- This episode marks the first onscreen appearances of Fan and OJ in over 2 years, albeit both in flashbacks from Blueberry.
- This episode was originally meant to release on October 28, 2023, but was delayed to a day later, then it got delayed again to November 3, 2023 due to solidarity with current events involving the violence in the Gaza Strip in Palestine during the the Israel-Hamas war.
- This makes it the only Inanimate Insanity Invitational episode to receive a delay.
- This also makes it the third (or technically second) episode to release on a Friday, the first ones being Out of Body Experience 1 and 2.
- This episode marks the first time a desert was seen in the show itself since the Season 1 episode "Journey Through Memory Lane".
- The title of this episode is a pun on the British television show "The Great British Bake-Off". It also based off a TPOT episode.
- Now that this episode is released, Season 2 and this season are tied together with their own respective final fours.
- With the only comparison between Season 1 and this season to have a greater male to female ratio of 3:1.
- Here are few other comparisons that only compare side by side for each final four between Season 2 and Season 3 itself:
- Each season has a finalist who are utensils, and basically been voiced by the same person alike;
- Season 2 has a more total ratio for every armless person than Season 3 of only 2:1;
- Season 2 also gets a higher contestant ratio of every Grand Slam member still remaining than Season 3 of 3:2; and
- Season 2 even has a higher ratio of every female than Season 3 of at least 2:1.
- This marks the comebacks of every character eliminated character in each of every Blueberry's flashbacks. With the most notable of which being Fan and OJ of how exactly what was Blueberry doing back in Indefinite Island.
- This also marks the fifth episode in the season where deaths occur. Boaty does count as they treated it like Box was. And the exception of Blueberry's fake death last episode.
- This episode is the second one to be using 2160p/4K resolution quality.
- This marks the fourth episode to feature Michael Huang, the most recent of which being "Cooking for the Grater Good" ten years prior.
- This episode is the second episode this season where the writer behind the episode isn't present at every end credits screens, the first of which being "Spring on the Breakfast" to only use an 80's theme for that episode. In this episode's case, Adam Katz, writer of the episode, got antisemitic abuse on Twitter and didn't appear in the credits.
- As of July 2024, this is currently the least viewed episode in Inanimate Insanity as a whole, with less than 700K views.
- This is the first episode where MePhone4 says "emotionally taxing".
Goofs[]
- At 17:44, Silver Spoon can be seen directly to the left of Balloon. However, two shots later, Nickel is shown to be directly to the left of Balloon instead.
Deaths[]
- Blueberry burst into smithereens from the Dessert Desert's flames.
