"Through No Choice of Your Own" is the 17th episode of Inanimate Insanity II, and the second act of Inanimate Insanity II: The Movie. It is the 54th episode overall. It was released on October 12, 2024.
Synopsis[]
After a shocking revelation, our two finalists are tasked with one last, terrifying challenge. As the world crumbles around them, Knife and Suitcase slowly come to realize that they have no choice about what to do next. Meanwhile, the residents of the hotel and mansion struggle to survive.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Marshmallow grabbing a remote in the start of the episode. Next, Paintbrush, Fan and Test Tube all confront Marshmallow about why she left the show. Paintbrush tells her that she left without anyone telling her. Apple then tells them that in her defense, she told her. Marshmallow then talked about when she wanted to come back to Purgatory Mansion but Paintbrush never listened to her. But Paintbrush then says this was false because if they weren't listening, they'd remember, then lets out a laugh, making everyone stare at them angrily. Paintbrush then sees the issue about Marshmallow leaving. Marshmallow tells Paintbrush that they wanted to be the leader of the team but always had a fire to put out, but Paintbrush tells her that they maybe had one to start. Marshmallow tells them that it was the game for them, like it takes over their entire life. Paintbrush then realizes how much it affected Marshmallow and tells her they didn't know how she felt. She tells them that she didn't know either until she started talking with Bow and that leaving it all wasn't an option at all.
Later in the video, a cameo of MePhone appeared drawing the members of Spoiled Lemon while humming the tune of Springtastic, but throws the paper away. Paintbrush understands Marshmallow, knowing that it was like they couldn't break the rules and do whatever they wanted. Another cameo of MePhone appeared with him drawing Knife on another paper. Paintbrush further adds that there was like a way they were supposed to act, while MePhone puts Suitcase's paper next to Knife's. Marshmallow adds on that the show brings out the worst in the contestants. This is followed by Apple admitting she can be possessive, and Fan saying he doesn't know if he could stand to see how annoying he was. Marshmallow proceeds to talk about Knife, and the times that he would kill her, shock her, burn her, and threw her across the island for a joke. Bow adds on that the show cost her own life, but before she could talk about what she did to come back, she started screaming again. Fan restates how similar the shrieking sounded to The Baby Shimmer. He turns to Test Tube, noticing she was frightened by something. Test Tube points towards "a new MePhone" standing the hallway, shortly before dying.
Back at Meeple Headquarters following just where we left off, Steve Cobs asks Suitcase and Knife if they had any questions about what he had just told them. Knife angrily punches him and breaks his glasses, before being apprehended by 2 MeTags, Cobs brushes this off and asks if MePhone4 is still there, taunting Him a little asking if he'd be more comfortable talking to A.D.A.M. Suitcase is shown to be confused and freaking out a bit, stuttering and questioning the whole thing. She then angrily asks MePhone4 why he made her the way she was, with her struggled with hallucinations before having a bit of an existence crisis questioning if her mind, friends and life are even real. MePhone4 tries to explain himself until Tissues comes in the closet as MePhone4 covers Steve Cobs' name on his head. Tissues talks about "spam callers" never giving up, and Suitcase tells him that it must suck for him to always be sick since MePhone4 thinks it's funny, calling it a "big joke". Tissues is both shocked and confused by this. Then, yet another cameo of MePhone4 drawing Tissues on a paper, with the words "ALWAYS SICK" at the bottom. MePhone4 says that it was just a "cute idea". But Suitcase tells him that this is something he can't fix, while Knife also calls him out, saying that they could have been anything, but MePhone just had to make them broken. Suddenly, the call ended. As MePhone4 was about to talk to Tissues, he gets deleted by MePhoneX.

Production Notes[]
Continuity References[]
- This episode reveals very vital information regarding MeLife.
- MeLife was created using the organic energy from the lost Shimmer egg that MePhone3GS had delivered to Cobs, as confirmed by the wire Toilet stole in "Theft and Battery".
- The app is not only responsible for creating a majority of the characters, but nearly every single landmark on Inanimate Island itself.
- Additionally, this episode reveals that characters generated by MeLife are connected to the large striped mountains around the island, hence why they disappear after contestants get deleted.
- The main hard drive for MeLife is contained inside of Me, which is why everything disappears after Toilet disconnects the wire it was plugged into it.
- This was possible due to a wire that Toilet had stolen and put inside of MePhone4 all the way back in "Theft and Battery", which was revealed to have let Cobs hijack MeLife itself.
- The flashback scenes at the beginning of the episode additionally reveal more information about the creation of the contestants:
- In the first scene, drawings of Nickel, Baseball, Taco, and Pickle can be seen moved to the side, referencing "The Stupid Trailer".
- Nickel's drawing has "Nickle" crossed out, referencing Nick Le.
- The Inanimate Insanity II contestants were made up alongside the original Inanimate Insanity contestants. It is unknown if the newbies from Inanimate Insanity Invitational were created in this timeframe as well.
- Rusty Jo, Pizza Slicer, Judge Gavel, and all of Spoiled Lemon were created by MePhone4.
- Suitcase and Knife had always been envisioned to be a duo together.
- This episode additionally confirms that MePhone did create the contestants subconsciously.
- In the first scene, drawings of Nickel, Baseball, Taco, and Pickle can be seen moved to the side, referencing "The Stupid Trailer".
- Steve Cobs refers to the Light Shimmers as "Phenomse", which was foreshadowed back in "Theft and Battery", as the wire Toilet stole was named "Model PH3N0M53 VK0cH".
- During the episode, it has been revealed that MePhone4 froze the final 4 contestants in place when leaving, leading the season to a hiatus before he managed to make the third season, Inanimate Insanity Invitational, which is the reason why the finalists couldn't remember him leaving to make a 3rd season.
- It is unknown if this affected Taco and MePad, as neither of them were inside of Hotel OJ and MePhone wasn't aware of Taco's presence.
- Additionally, MePhone can be seen using a ballpoint pen in the flashbacks, which looks eerily similar to the Ballpoint Pen seen in "Out of Body Experience".
- Microphone saying that "all [Taco] wants is to help" is a callback to "Rain on Your Charade", where Taco says the same thing to Microphone when they first meet.
- Test Tube in Suitcase's hallucination saying "I thought you were smarter than this." is the same thing Suitcase said to her in that one episode "Hatching the Plan".
Behind the Scenes[]
- While Soap does not appear in this episode, she was originally animated in a Hotel OJ scene before being replaced by Starfruit in the final episode. It is currently unknown whether this was a placeholder or not.[2]
Cultural References[]
- Baseball is shown to be confused upon seeing Silver Spoon, as the two have never met each other before. This is a likely reference to the DuckTales episode "Moonvasion!", where Violet Sabrewing displays a similar reaction to Darkwing Duck.
- Salt saying "What else is new?" is a reference to Lollipop saying the same line in the Battle for BFDI episode "Four Goes Too Far".
Trivia[]
- At 33 minutes in length, this episode officially breaks the record of the longest episode of the entire series, beating out "Kick the Bucket" and its 31 minute runtime.
- This episode is the first appearance of Oliver Smith voicing Toilet, replacing Taylor Grodin.
- After this episode, all of Taylor's major roles have been recasted.
- Similar to "The Reality of the Situation", Brian Koch did several small contests to reveal words in this episode's title, albeit being more like community events compared to the previous episode. The words were confirmed to be out of order when Brian revealed them, telling the fans to put them in the right order. After all words were revealed, the speculated episode title was "Through No Choice of Their Own". However, Brian tweeted a few hours before the episode "Update: What was theirs is now yours." which made the final episode's title "Through No Choice of Your Own".[3]
- On October 9, 2024, Brian Koch asked people to reply with their own covers of "The Future Is So Yesterday", asking for 52 covers in total by the end of the day. At the end of the day, he revealed that two words in the episode's title were "THEIR", and "OF".
- On October 10, Brian asked people to edit MePhoneX into images. Later that day, he revealed two more words: "CHOICE" and "THROUGH".
- On October 11, then asked people to tell them what the show Inanimate Insanity meant to them for the rest of the title. Later that day, he revealed the last two words: "NO" and "OWN".
- Steve Cobs, MePhone4, Bot, Baxter, Dough, Bow, MePad, and MePhone3GS were the only 8 characters remaining at the end of this episode, due to Steve Cobs' actions, and Toilet's sacrifice.
- The way contestants defeat Steve Cobs is possibly themed after cancellation of production.
- This episode has the most number of deaths than any episode in history, due to Steve Cobs' actions, along with Toilet's sacrifice.
- Here is every victim and the stereotypes MePhone4 made them with revealed killed by Steve Cobs using MePhoneX upon vandalizing their dead bodies.
Deaths[]
- Test Tube, Tissues, Yin-Yang, Fan, Lightbulb, Starfruit, Balloon, Trophy, Candle, Bomb, Goo, Cabby, Baseball, Salt, Pepper, Silver Spoon, Cherries and Cheesy were all deleted by MePhoneX, in that order. Everyone up to Lightbulb was deleted while Toilet was in control of MePhoneX, and the rest were all deleted at the control of Steve Cobs.
- Knife, Suitcase, and everyone else (excluding Steve Cobs, MePhone4, Baxter, MePad, Toilet, Bot, Dough, Bow, and MePhone3GS) were all deleted after Toilet unplugged Me.
- Apple (alongside the other debuters from "A New Stage In The Game"), Paper and Ballpoint Pen have explicitly been confirmed to have also been deleted.[6]
- MePhoneX is destroyed on impact by falling to the ground.
- Springy, Rusty Jo, Judge Gavel, Pizza Cutter, Dagger, Razor Blade, Swiss Army Knife, Hammer, Poker Chip, Spoiled Lemon, Lifering, Tea Kettle, Clover, Blueberry, Microphone, Taco, Paintbrush, and Marshmallow are possibly dead as well, as they were all created by MePhone4.
- This is confirmed in the following episode, "Objects in Mirror", as they all are individually seen in MePhone's 'afterlife'.
- This episode is one of the few to not have an intro.
- This may be because it's a second Act to a movie, as well as the fact that the plot of the episode was too serious to fit the intro into it.
Imaginary Deaths[]
- Suitcase was ripped apart by Knife.
- Balloon, Nickel, Baseball, Fan, and Test Tube were deleted, in order, in Suitcase's hallucination.
Goofs[]
- On 14:50, when Fan says “Why Bow Sounded like Egg!” the subtitles misspell it as “Why Bow sounded ike Egg!” This was later fixed.
- From 1:13 onwards, the TV remote that Marshmallow places on the stairs is missing.
- At 30:48, there are two frames where Steve Cobs has a different expression on his face. Suitcase's walk cycle animation also resets after two frames.
References[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Knife and Suitcase both got deleted before the actual winner was chosen. Some can argue them to be unranked. Others can argue they tie for first, to fill what would be the missing slot. Additionally, Knife said that "there won't be a winner" to Steve Cobs.

- ↑ What was theirs is now yours.
- ↑ This could be a pun for his action in "The Arena of Death".
- ↑ This references his early season 1 persona, being narcissistic and rude.
