"Try Not To Laugh Challenge" is the 6th episode of Inanimate Insanity Invitational and the 38th episode overall. It was released on December 18, 2021.
Synopsis[]
When MePhone BANS LAUGHTER across the island, the contestants are thrust into a TRY NOT TO LAUGH CHALLENGE! Who can avoid the charming chuckles and giddy giggles when coming face-to-face with the nefarious nuisances who dare to play loosey-goosey with the law?
Plot[]
Pre-Intro[]
The episode starts off with MePhone4 trying to alarm his contestants that they would all die from laughing at the premiere of his new magazine, but is annoyed when he realizes none of them are listening to him. Nearby, the contestants are seen passing around a piece of paper, which they are all laughing at. Bot walks over to Clover and asks her if she wanted to read it, but Clover continuously backs away in fear, so Bot decides to ask her again later. In a confessional, Clover declares that she will stay away from everything and everyone, so nobody meets the same fate as Box. Balloon and Nickel arrive in the area, with Balloon apologizing for their late arrival. Nickel tells him that they probably didn't miss much, and calls MePhone a "baby host". MePhone asks them if he could see the note that was supposedly very funny, but it flies out of Silver Spoon's hand. Candle suggests that everyone groups together so that they could remember the funny note together, which brings everyone to laugh even more. MePhone angrily slams his foot down and declares that laughter is now ILLEGAL.
Challenge[]
MePhone4 explains the next challenge: 3 contestants from each team will be chosen, with 2 of them being the "law abiding" citizens, and the other one being the "nuisance". The law abiding citizens are not allowed to laugh, and will be sent to jail if they do. The nuisance of a team has to try to get the other teams citizens to laugh. The first team to lose both of their members loses. MePhone chooses Balloon, Tea Kettle, Yin-Yang, Candle, Clover, and Goo as citizens, and Nickel, The Floor, and Bot as nuisances.
Bot and Goo pull out a file, and use jokes to attempt to make Clover feel better. Cabby realizes this and yells out to them, but is shut down by MePhone. The Floor comes over to Bot and Goo, and starts to panic due to his apparent stage fright. Nickel walks over to Candle and Yin-Yang, in an attempt to make Yin-Yang laugh. Yin-Yang tells Nickel that he can't make them laugh because they were "balanced" but Nickel manages to nearly make Yin-Yang crack. Candle however starts cackling to save him, and is sent to jail by MePhone. Silver comments on how he would never break that easily, but Paintbrush brings up the fact that he laughs whenever Nickel walks by.
Yin-Yang figures that Candle must have trusted them to keep it together, but Nickel says it was a stupid decision. Yin lashes out at Nickel, saying that he just makes fun of people because he's sad. Nickel attempts to retort by bringing up that his entire team voted for him, but he embarasses himself. Tea Kettle is upset that Nickel had just ruined their plan of attack.
Bot attempts to lighten up Clover with more jokes, and Nickel generates a pie, pushing his face into it. MePhone asks where he got the pie, and sends him to jail as well for using the Pic-Nix Tables, which he was banned from. Tea Kettle confronts Balloon on why he thinks basing his game around Nickel is a good idea, and that no one will be working with him when the merge happens. The note from earlier falls into Tea Kettle's grasp, and she throws it towards Clover. Bot catches the paper, and puts it in front of Tea Kettle, making her laugh. Silver asks Paintbrush who they want to vote for, convinced they will lose the challenge. Paintbrush tells him that he should be helping out the team more instead. Silver gives out advice to The Floor, with him realizing that he doesn't have stage fright. The Floor tells Goo a very corny joke, but manages to make him laugh anyway. MePhone announces that there is only 1 citizen left on all teams. Bot continues to talk to Clover. Clover tells them that she doesn't need sympathy on top of her luck, and that she would be happy if they tried their hardest to win. Bot approaches Yin-Yang with a bowl of spaghetti, and Yin almost cracks a smile. However, Silver tells Yin-Yang that they can take them on. Yin-Yang uses mindful positioning to keep from laughing, and Bot gives up. Bot calls over The Floor, and points towards Balloon. Balloon starts panicking, and Nickel yells out "baby host", making Balloon laugh, and putting The Sinkers up for elimination again. MePhone wonders how the more distracted teams won, and Candle says it might be with the "power of love". MePhone laughs at this, and is put in the jail cell himself.
Clover thanks Bot and Goo for cheering her up earlier, and Candle congratulates Silver on helping out the team. Silver appoints himself as the "royal advisor" of The Thinkers, which shocks Paintbrush. Tea Kettle tells Balloon it isn't his fault they lost, but if they keep Nickel this chaos would continue to happen. Nickel arrives and tells them that it was a losing battle, and didn't want to give Bot or The Floor satisfaction for winning. Nickel tells Balloon that he still believes in him, and asks him if they are sticking together. Balloon presses the elimination button with a worried look on his face.
Elimination[]
MePhone calls The Sinkers "stinkers" in response to their constant lose streak. Tea Kettle and Nickel argue, and MePhone asks Balloon if he is doing okay. Balloon tells him that it was just a tough vote. MePhone announces that Balloon had won the voted immunity. Between Nickel and Tea Kettle, Balloon votes for the latter, making Tea Kettle the 6th eliminated contestant. Tea Kettle questions his decision, and Balloon tells her he didn't want to play the game the way she proposed. She hugs it out with the two, and tells Nickel to behave. Balloon rests his arm on Nickel, and Nickel sighs in relief.
On Indefinite Island, Walkie-Talkie questions how they ran out of indefinite coconuts, claiming they were supposed to be indefinite. Lifering freaks out over the fact they might starve. Tea Kettle flies into the island, and Lifering catches her. Lifering asks her if she brought her Hors d'oeuvres, and everyone celebrates.

Production Notes[]
Continuity References[]
- When the wind blows the note off of Silver Spoon's grasp, he pulls off an expression identical to one he did in "Tragedy At 60 Feet".
- Before MePhone4 announces laughter is illegal, he plays an alarm identical to the one in "The Shame of the Name".
- Like in "The Shame of the Name", the subtitles get distorted when a character says "chair".
- Nickel is still banned from the Pic-Nix Tables from "Snapshot Showdown".
- Bot makes several references to Season 1.
- Bot shouts "SOUR CREAM!" in reference to Taco. Paintbrush remarks that saying the phrase is now considered "in really bad taste".
- Bot performs "Amazing Catching Skills Go!" in reference to "Amazing Dodging Skills Go!" from "The Arena of Death". Paintbrush is notably surprised and calls it their "thing".
Cultural References[]
- During Silver Spoon's and Paintbrush's conversation about Nickel, Paintbrush asks him about "a penny", which could be a reference to Coiny from Battle For Dream Island.
- The title "Try Not To Laugh Challenge" is in reference to the popular internet challenge where players watch funny clips and attempt to not laugh.
- An ube cake can be seen on the Pic-Nix Tables amongst other desserts.
- MePhone4's line "Off To The Prison For Grand Theft Chuckle!" is a reference to the 1997 video game Grand Theft Auto (A.K.A GTA).
- The Ultimate Red Velvet Cake from Red Cream Soda's TROC 5 entry appears on the Pic-Nix Tables amongst other desserts.
- The Floor refers to himself as "FunnyLittleFace1337x7" which is in reference to "leet" (1337) or "leetspeak".
- Bot refers to The Floor as "Floorida", a reference to Florida.
Trivia[]
- This was the final Inanimate Insanity Invitational episode of 2021.
- According to Justin Chapman, the original script of this episode had the contestants balancing a tower of MePhone's magazines, as well as trying not to laugh.
- It is revealed that one of Clover's butterflies is named Cordelia.
- This is the second animal to have a name in the series, the first being Baxter.
- This is the first episode in Inanimate Insanity Invitational to feature Yin-Yang's mindful positioning. This has also happened a 2nd time in Pesty Besties.
